Hi all

So where to start. Well first off my name is Shiva (yes it is my real name) and I'm 31 years old, and 6ft 2inches tall. If you haven't guessed by now its a Hindu name, and its also my religion,, which most likely means...yes im Indian..but WEST Indian. I am actually from Trinidad (Caribbean - off the coast of Venezuela) for those that aren't too certain. For those that have heard me talk, you can tell my accent is definitely not east indian..(thank god).

Trinidad is a very tiny country indeed, but boy, when the party starts there it goes on for months. Carnival in Trinidad pretty much starts the DAY AFTER Christmas day and goes non stop till its over at the end of February (srsly). Then there are "Carnival cooldown" parties or "fetes" as we call them for another month.


As for gaming, well I've been gaming for about 26 years now, non stop! no off and on bullshit...straight up nonstop. Its always been in my blood and always been a part of me. After much trial and error I found my calling in game design as a career. This bachelors will be my 3rd degree, first is in business management, second in multimedia and third is this. Im diving straight into my masters at Full Sail Orlando (currently in SoCal San Diego) right afterward. Im focused on Project managment in the industry, less on "animation" and "programming". I'm more along the theory of design and reasoning behind dropping 20 million on a project rather than "omg that looks cool" or "zombies are awesome...because..it just....IS".

I started WoW as a "research project" actually. I had played a bit of Ultima Online, a bit of EQ and Asherons Call. I left MMO's for a longgggggg time after that before trying it out again. I tried CoH, didnt like it....Guild Wars...didnt like it....and then was pulled to WoW in 2005.

I started a Paladin on alliance side (most people i knew at the time were ally so..go figure) and ended up being a healbot for 3 years. It was enjoyable in raid but after 3 years of healing I wanted to try something else.

For Lich I decided to play a melee dps class. I still have tremendous respect for healers and tanks, it is not an easy job I know. It even took a while to orient myself to pure dps, especially melee but damn im enjoying it now!

Haha holy shazaam, brotha. I started playing WoW because of a research project too! I was in an intense Video Game Art and Design program at the time and one of my courses demanded I learn about the Alpha and Beta stages of games and the concept designs behind them. I chose WoW purely because of the art that Blizzard pumps out in concept sketches. It's maddening, I tell you. Then I got pulled into it started playing during closed Beta, after I sent Blizzard an email telling them about my project.

I started off as a Druid... night elf. All my buddies were alliance at the time too. I was a healbot for two years back in the day when Scholo and Strat were 15 man hard-nights. I dabbled with the warrior as an alt during off raid hours. I made Kiyata to be my level 18 "Win a few BG's" Alt, hence her being Horde.

Yep. Quite similar too!

I had bought a book on MMO's called Synthetic Worlds by Edward Castranova. More focused on the business and culture of online MMO's. It was very amateur in design, but focused towards the "new to MMO" or "what is this MMO thing" kinda people.

I checked out WoW. Used "How to prep your guild for raid" as a presentation for Game Design Theory (got an A) and even used WoW's talent trees in my other classes like Interface design theory and character design.
